G.E.R.G.E.R. abbreviates the magic words Generation of Exceptional Reporters Gifted with Endless Rights which is actually the name of the online sub-organization of Kabataan News Network(The original name of X-Press of Channel 2)
It is an online publication of the youth reporters all over the country promoting responsible journalism. It is designed not just for the X-press reporters but also for those youths who have the nose for news and have passion in creative and factual writing.
This organization aims to have link between modern youths to participate in imparting information, sharing thoughts and formulating analysis with regards to any social issues around them.
Through this, it will contribute to the realization that Jose Rizal was indeed true to his premise that the youth is the nation's hope. This org believes that no matter how little your good deed is, it still make difference!
With special and feature writter reports by these online reporters, the view of being a typical teenager, who is usually caught in the middle of sins, will change and divert to the reality that youths for this generation are now political minded and even more educated.
Brief History
The word GERGER is a popular bisayan word representation of the word SEX. It was May 2006 when UNICEF conducted a national assembly to all KNN reporters for HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY.There, ALbert of Davao Bureau (Alberto Egot Jr.) brought that word and oriented the tagalog people and stored to their minds because of its funny impact during the discussion.
Two days after the seminar, Janus of Capiz bureau went to Davao to participate a certain activity and gave the way to the two reporters (janus and abert) to talk until they came up with such concept. Janus was the one who gave meaning to the word "gerger". After the short time of conversation, Albert did not waste time and designed the first template of GERGER. When the server of the website was finally ok, they consulted it to Katreng of Manila Bureau in order to dissiminate the said organization.
With the help of text brigade, many were informed and visited the site during its lunching (June 2006). Janus is the appointed secretary, Katreng for Vice Pres. and Albert was the President until now. These three are the founders and the initiators behind this rising org.
The KNN Associate Director was even impressed when she heard about the site. She even suggested Albert to put this and to put that on the site. (The conversation was done at THE VENUE, Davao City with Che che Lazaro during their visit in Davao for a seminar)
Until such time, many were responding and sending their creative articles even non-knners. And, it is for the youth!for the country!
